Storm Drain Marker Event - Nothing but Rain Goes Down the Drain
Thirty one volunteers from service organizations, families and individuals adhered 225 markers to storm drain inlets in eleven neighborhoods throughout Missouri City on Saturday November 12th. The event was hosted by Missouri City Green working in partnership with Missouri City Public Works department. Decals were adhered to storm drain inlets to remind residents and yard crews that "nothing but rain goes down the drain". |

Missouri City Green Volunteers at Tricks and Treats in the Park
Missouri City Green volunteers handed out treats and Take Care of Texas Environmental Activity Books to trick-or-treaters. They also provided an educational game on recycling and storm drains to teach children and their parents that "nothing but rain goes down the drain!". |

Textile Recycling Event - October 8th
3,680 Pounds of Textiles kept out of our Landfills
Missouri City Green partnered with the City of Missouri City and Green City Recycler to host its first ever drive-thru Textile Recycling Event. They collected over 3680 pounds of used clothing, shoes, and other household items for recycling. According to the EPA, 85% of textiles that can be recycled are not and end up in landfills. |

Rainwater Harvesting Workshop - September 17
Thirty families Take Home Rain Barrels for their Gardens
Fort Bend County Extension Agent in conjunction with Missouri City Green and Missouri City Parks and Recreation presented a workshop on installing a rainwater harvesting system for the backyard of a family home. Rainwater harvesting focuses on capturing rainwater from your roof and diverting it to irrigate plants and vegetables. Each participant received a rain barrel to install in their back yard. |

Golden Tree Award Winner Houston Baptist Church - July 2022
Congratulations to our July Golden Tree Award winner Houston Baptist Church. The church's landscaping was destroyed entirely by winter storm Uri. Church members have worked to "re-landscape" the church's campus with native plants and even created a butterfly garden. The Horizon Baptist Church has added to the beautification of Missouri City! |
MCG Volunteers at Summer Children's Day Camp - July 11
Seventy children from the Summer Day Camp sponsored by MC Parks and Recreation were treated to activities on recycling, worm composting and plants from Missouri City Green and Fort Bend Master Gardeners. Campers planted seeds using recycled toilet paper rolls, studied and held composting worms, learned about the parts of a flower and made a coffee filter flower to take home. It was a great day for campers and volunteers. |

Edible Earth Fest - May 14
Visitors enjoyed a spring day while strolling along Oyster Creek Trail during the Edible Earth Fest. An abundance of fruit and a variety of native plants were available along the trail in addition to opportunities to learn about composting, water conservation, beneficial insects and recycling from knowledgeable volunteers. Paul Wierzbicki, City Forester, gave golf cart tours while pointing out the many groves lining this tasty trail. Missouri City Green and Missouri City Parks and Recreation partnered to host this event with sponsorship by H-E-B. |

Paper Shredding Event – April 30
Over 420 families participated in this annual event. A total of 25,740 pounds of confidential documents were shredded by ProShred with 100% of the material recycled locally. |

Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off 2022
Over 750 Pounds of Trash Collected
Over 60 volunteers of all ages participated in Missouri City's Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off, part of the largest one day cleanup event in the State of Texas. The event was a huge success with volunteers from across the city gathering to remove litter from Missouri City's parks. Missouri City Green and MC Parks and Recreation partnered together to host the event for the 9th consecutive year. Volunteers were treated to pizza and awards at the Missouri City Community Center. |

Electronics Recycling Event - March 19th
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Missouri City Green volunteers, the City of Missouri City, Missouri City Parks & Recreation Deptment and CompuCycle (R2 Certified Recycler) our 9th Annual Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday March 19th was a HUGE success. Over 400 people drove through the line to recycle unwanted, outdated and broken electronics. Donated items will be refurbished, where possible, or broken down so that their valuable component parts can be put back into the manufacturing process. Thank you to those who generously donated toward future community clean up events. |

Pop-Up Native Plant Workshop and Sale- March 5th
Over 60 homeowners attended the Pop-Up Native Plant Workshop and plant sale at the Missouri City Farmers Market on March 5th. Missouri City Green and Fort Bend Master Gardeners provided information and answered questions on native plants and beautifying your yard with them. The workshop explained how growing native plants helps local wildlife and our planet by reducing water, fertilizer and pesticide use. |

Missouri City Green awarded Gold Star Status for 2022!
Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement organization, recently named Missouri City Green, a Gold Star Affiliate for 2022. This is the seventh straight year Missouri City Green has earned the honor. Gold Star recognition is the highest membership recognition status any community affiliate can achieve. In 2021 alone, KTB affiliates engaged 41,550 volunteers who contributed 190,094 hours to collect 3.25 million pounds of waste and recyclables from Texas roadways, trails, and waterways. Missouri City Green successfully implemented programs to clean up litter, reduce and recycle waste, educate local citizens, and beautify and enhance the local community. |
