2021 Year in Review
Missouri City Green awarded Gold Star Status for 2021!
Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement organization, recently named Missouri City Green, a Gold Star Affiliate for 2021. This is the sixth straight year Missouri City Green has earned the honor. Gold Star recognition is the highest membership recognition status any community affiliate can achieve.
In 2020 alone, KTB affiliates engaged 20,917 volunteers who contributed 37,857 hours to collect 1 million pounds of waste and recyclables from Texas roadways, trails, and waterways. Missouri City Green successfully implemented programs to clean up litter, reduce and recycle waste, educate local citizens, and beautify and enhance the local community. |
Golden Tree Award Winner Randy Troxell - January 2021
Congratulations to our January Golden Tree Award winner Randy Troxell. Randy has been in the Parks & Recreation business for most of his professional life. For 29 years he has been as Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation in Missouri City. Randy’s love of parks and nature has resulted in the wonderful city parks we enjoy today. He has inspired and mentored countless numbers of park caretakers and volunteers. This award serves as recognition of a lifetime of achievement and dedication to Missouri City parks |
Electronics Recycling Event -March 6
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Missouri City Green's volunteers, the City of Missouri City, Missouri City Parks & Recreation Deptment and CompuCycle (R2 Certified Recycler) our 8th Annual Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday March 6th was a HUGE success. Over 275 people drove through the line to recycle 29,299 pounds of unwanted, outdated and broken electronics. Donated items will be refurbished, where possible, or broken down so that their valuable component parts can be put back into the manufacturing process. Thank you to those who generously donated toward future community clean up events. |

Trash-Off 2021: Over 450 pounds of Trash Collected
Over 60 volunteers of all ages participated in Missouri City Green's Trash-Off, part of the largest one day cleanup event in the State of Texas. In just 2 hours, 45 bags of litter (over 450 pounds) were removed from five Missouri City's parks and trails. Missouri City Green and MC Parks and Recreation partnered together to host this event for the 8th year. |

Edible Earth Fest along Oyster Creek Trail on April 10th
Visitors enjoyed a personal golf cart tour down the tastiest trail in Texas during the Edible Earth Fest. They gathered fruit, plants and gardening supplies along the trail. Volunteers shared information on composting, water conservation, beneficial insects and recycling. Missouri City Green and MC Parks and Recreation partnered together to host this event with sponsorship by H-E-B. A big shout out to Paul Wierzbicki, MC Forester, for his vision in creating this trail and organizing this event! |

Golden Tree Award Winner Home Depot - April 2021
Home Depot volunteers from several area stores, donated and planted 20 new trees at American Legion Park. The planting was held on November 11th (Veteran’s Day) as part of Team Depot’s volunteer effort to support local communities and honor veterans. The new trees were planted on the south end of the lake. In addition to the trees, the volunteers donated tools, mulch, compost, and lunch to the project. |
Over 630 Families Participated in the Paper Shredding Event - June 5
A total of 26,840 pounds of confidential papers were shredded on site by our vendor ProShred. 100% of the material will be recycled locally. |

MCG Volunteers at Summer Children's Day Camp - July 19
Sixty children from the Summer Day Camp sponsored by MC Parks and Recreation were treated to a class on recycling, worm composting and decomposers by volunteers from Missouri City Green. Students created chia pets using recycled water bottles, studied and held composting worms, and learned how bugs break down our organic waste. |

Golden Tree Award Winner
Texas Department of Transportation - July 2021
When you mention Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), most folks think about road repairs, traffic signals and signs. However, TXDOT is one of the biggest tree planters and beatification advocates in the Houston region. TXDOT's Green Ribbon Program allows state transportation funds to be used to to develop green-space enhancement projects along state right-of-ways and detention areas.
TXDOT partnered with Missouri City to beautify the medians along Cartwright Road and Texas Parkway. Missouri City received 268 new trees and shrubs and several perennial beds. TXDOT also improved the soil conditions of the medians for better plant growth and drainage, and installed a comprehensive irrigation system. Missouri City was able to receive close to $500,000 in landscape improvements funded through TXDOT. |
Tricks & Treats in the Park - October 23rd
Worm Composting Workshop - November 13th
Thirty six people, including nine children, attended Missouri City Green's Worm Composting Workshop. Composting specialist Sam Guardiola from Fort Bend Master Gardeners taught participants how to set up and maintain a healthy worm composting system. Participants had fun creating their own bin full of wriggling worms to take home! This event was hosted by Missouri City Green with support from Missouri City Parks & Recreation. |

Earthkind Craft for Children at Missouri City Snowfest - December 4th
Over fifty children made bird feeders at craft tables hosted by volunteers of Missouri City Green at the Snowfest Holiday Market at Missouri City Community Center. |
