2020 Year in Review

Electronics Recycling Event -January 25

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Missouri City Green's volunteers, the City of Missouri City, Missouri City Parks & Recreation Deptment and CompuCycle (R2 Certified Recycler) our 7th Annual Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday January 25 was a HUGE success.

Over 350 people drove through the line to recycle their unwanted, outdated and broken electronics. Donated items will be refurbished, where possible, or broken down so that their valuable component parts can be put back into the manufacturing process.
Special thanks to those who generously donated toward future community clean up events.

Trash Clean Up by WIDE School along Edible Arbor Trail- February 28

Students from the TED Club at the WIDE school in Missouri City turned out in force on February 28 to clean up a section of the Edible Arbor Trail in partnership with Missouri City Green. The enthusiasm and passion of these young people was such a pleasure to observe. Thank you to Maryam and her teaching staff who led the children and also Councilman Anthony Maroulis, and Gabe, the manager of Walmart, who were also there to support these amazing young people!

Golden Tree Award Winner  H-E-B - June 18

Congratulations to our June Golden Tree Award winner H-E-B.      H-E-B is receiving this award because of both the local Missouri City stores and Corporate's continued commitment to keeping Missouri City and Texas beautiful.  This is the second time that H-E-B has received the Golden Tree award in the last five years.

H-E-B has supported multiple events in Missouri City including, but not limited to:
  • Backyard Composting Workshop
  • Don't Mess With Texas Trash Off
  • Edible Earth Fest
  • Tree Planting Competition
In 2019, as a company, H-E-B diverted more than 486 million pounds of waste from landfills by recycling materials including cardboard, plastics, office paper, food waste, metals and truck tires. H-E-B continues to invest in energy efficient LED lighting and higher efficiency refrigeration and HVAC equipment for their stores and facilities.

Golden Tree Award Winner  Lupe Tortilla - October 12

Lupe Tortilla near Sienna has earned our Golden Tree award for this quarter.   Although their landscape is not a "xeroscape," much of it requires less water and maintenance than other businesses and restaurants.

The restaurant has also incorporated a paperless menu and energy efficient lighting and features.
